We've just realised that we have now completed our 10th sailing season on Forever Freedom.  Anyway, we've taken an early bath and decided to start our winter break now.  We have become a bit tired of being on the move and, all things considered, the Turkish and Greek coastlines have all started to look very similar after a few months.  After exactly 1000NM by the log, we have decided that we will leave the boat in the boat yard at Porto Lagos for the rest of the summer and right through until next April.  This is a very quiet location.  This is the "Marina" - and we are the only visiting yacht.  The buildings are the workshops and storage for the fishermen's co-operative.
We have moved into the village hotel - the Hotel Porto Vistonis which is about 250m away and is €20 per person, per night, B&B.  The days are now filled with boat chores ready for lift-out.  Forever Freedom will be lifted-out on Saturday morning at 10.00.  On Sunday at 12.30 we are catching the "Metro" bus from Xanthi to Istanbul, arriving at 19.30.  We shall spend Sunday and Monday nights in Istanbul in the Hotel Senatus and then fly back to London Heathrow on Tuesday 14th August.

This is the main quay at Porto Lagos, where they load the grain ships - the "Marina" quay is just to the left.  Behind is the village (yes, all of it!) and, in the distance is Lake Vistonis; the lake is a huge bird refuge, some 6 miles by 2.5 miles with a huge population of Herons, Egrets - and lots of other birds whose names I forget!!!

This is the boatyard where we will be leaving Forever Freedom.
