We left later than usual; 0800 instead of 0600, which gave the "Harbour Master" the chance to extract TL30 from us this morning - the marina must have been taken over by the local fishing co-operative - didn't get a receipt though!!!  The course was due South towards the shipping lanes, where we made our way through three ships Westbound towards the Dardanelles, and seven ships Eastbound towards Istanbul and the Bosphorus.  Because we have AIS and radar we were able to thread our way through with no difficulty and the closest we came to the beam of a crossing ship was about one mile.  The visibility was about 6 miles so, with no dashing across their bows, that was fine with us.  The island of Avşa Adasi was about 27 miles South, so a short day.  We are now alongside in one of the many Turkish Government "Investment" harbours - these are an infrastructure investment for the future; whether it be commercial or recreational - something the British government never seems to consider!!!  Tomorrow, weather permitting, we hope to do the 60 mile West down the first part of the Dardanelles to Çanakkale.  If we can get a berth in Çanakkale marina we will stay 2-3 days extra to visit the Gallipoli battlefields and maybe also Troy.  Çanakkale is also a "Port of Entry", so we may check-out here in order to go to the Greek Islands.
