Well Dino's help, we managed to get the
steering quadrant repaired by Themos in Limassol with a 24 hour turnaround; it
cost us 350 Euro but we would never have managed to organize it on our own
and would have taken weeks to get it repaired or get a new part from the
USA. This morning, Tony off "Full Flight" installed the
quadrant back on the top of the rudder shaft and re-aligned the autopilot
and connecting cables, and Dan off "Still Dreaming" repaired the
companionway hatch and re-rivetted the fittings back onto the underneath of the
boom, so that the Main Sheet can now be properly controlled again. We are
now back to our normal level of chaos! The help from other rally
participants has been really amazing and, without it, we would be here for
weeks. The weather is still atrocious with winds in the marina of Force
6-7 and waves outside of about 5 meters - so we are not going anywhere for a
couple of days at least. Lo Brust, the Rally Organizer, thinks there may
be a weather window on Friday. This means we can leave Cyprus for Port
Said (where we were scheduled to be tomorrow) which is about 245 nautical miles
away and a 48 hour passage; if the weather blows up again it should be from
behind us so we can sail with just the jib up if
necessary. __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4486 (20091007) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4486 (20091007) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4486 (20091007) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com |
