Position 14:29.15N 57:13.60W
Still moving along,
generally on our line toward St. Lucia but the wind has died off somewhat
reducing our average speed of around 7+ knots to just over 5 knots. Probably now
adding another day to the sail.
The results
of the Grand round Robin Cribbage tournament.
Bob G and Bob D
started strong. They were clearly vying for top dog but Lesley came on strong at
the end.
Then, Lesley finally beat Bob G. Lesley
became the leader, at which point Bob D refused to ever play Cribbage again
ever!
Bob G was not sure he had the mental strength to keep up with Lesley
and all the arithmetic and all the other jobs going on. Sleep, wake up,
think about getting up, sleep, ..
Leslie decided it was time to quit as
Champion - on the basis of always quit when you are on top and never put
yourself in a position that you can actually lose!
Yay!
Well done
Les!
As the two Bobs and
John adjusted the sail plan to a broad reach from a single downwind genoa sail
used during the days – another failure!
They say that you
should never be hoisted up the mast using a typical halyard clasp as the way to
hold you. Well, we have now have two of these clasps fail – both times the
fixing was for the uplift on our pole. The result of this failure was flaying
whisker pole looking for a head to bonk!
Working as a great team with Bob
furling the genoa way to quieten down the genoa sheet, Bob waiting to catch the
whisker pole and John at the mast controlling the gooseneck of the pole they
soon sorted the fly away pole and we were back in business.
Not much excitement
today, just some maintenance work on one of the appliances one doesn’t talk
about to keep John busy and lots of moral support from the rest of
us.
As John went for his
daily walk around the estate, as he calls it, he noticed the replacement split
pin that replaced the failed one three days ago on the whisker pole had – you
guessed it – FAILED again!
So, back to fitting a new one!
Geesh! 2,800
miles really takes it toll on the rigging!
Over these days we
have really enjoyed lovely sunrises and sunsets, moonlight and starry nights,
it’s our big screen entertainment.
Though it’s never possible to capture the grandeur in photos here are a
few of our favorites
