We sail from Kiparassi to Navpiloni – almost!
14th May, 2013

Our next sail was to visit Navpiloni.
Navpiloni is only 25 miles up the coast and is supposed to be the most romantic place in Greece.

We set off after breakfast. Once John had set the sails he promptly went back to bed.
John is not feeling at all well.

We sailed for three hours and made no progress to speak of against a head wind. John was feeling really bad requiring Les to take over as skipper whilst feeling sorry for himself!

Les decided to change direction and head for Athens anchoring at Hydra overnight on the way and then see how John was in the morning. If he was bad then continue to Athens. If was he was better then we would head on to more islands.

The wind was dying down and by late afternoon we had to put the motor on again. We arrived at the bay in Hydra only to find it was chock-a-block with boats! Wow! I can’t believe that those skippers had a good nights sleep that night! It was a shame we couldn’t anchor there as there was a water taxi into town which Bob & Cathy could have used for dinner that evening. Meanwhile, as is the standard in Greece, we were now looking for another place to stay the night.

The pilot book gave us a good anchorage 7 miles away that was popular with the locals.  As we motor on a closer look at our chart plotter map reveals this area has now become a restricted area no anchoring allowed anymore! The next anchorage is another 5 miles at Oromos Kapari.  It’s a real pain that pilot books are almost guaranteed to always be out of date by the time they are published, right!

Still, it was an idyllic spot anyway.  We managed to arrive an hour before sunset and get settled whilst John was still in another land! Les decided that the best option now was to head to Athens in the morning  so that John could get to a doctor if needed - he still was not making any progress.
John was up and down all night.

As Bob and Les were both up early we up-anchored by 7.30 we were on or way to Athens.
We had to motor as there was no wind but the sea was like a millpond so progress was fast.
John was still in bed feeling unwell.
Les phoned the marina on our satellite mobile, “Yes!”, they had a spot.

Ha Ha! It was all John could do to change the petrol tanks over!

The scenery was glorious, the trip uneventful and it was a shame that Bob, Cathy and Les couldn’t enjoy it as much as possible because of John’s bug!

Athens is a busy port in a huge bay. Many ships all wanting to depart or arrive but all very organized non the less.  The marina came into view and John was summoned from the depths of the boat to take command of the yacht again.
