Elvissa
First
off we took a bus to Elvissa, the capitol of Ibiza.
(I love using the local buses when
possible. You really get a good feel of the surroundings. It’s not just being
cheap – really!)
Anyway, there is a great
Castle with major fortifications within which is the original town. The castle and cathedral in Elvissa have become
‘World Heritage’ sites. Construction started in 1554 and went on for 31 years.
There are tiny little streets within the walls with housing, shops, restaurants
and coffee places.
The gateway through the castle walls is via the ‘Portal
de Ses Taules’ drawbridge which is a kinda nice touch.
The
Elvissa port is large.
It caters for several ferry operators who go to
Valencia, Barcelona and the other islands. It’s also one of the most expensive places to
berth in the whole of the Mediterranean
with stories of $400+ a night in the high season – and it’s not that good a port
either!
We
had a good day here but unfortunately it did rain most of the day.
