Gibraltar to Puerto Banus

Another ‘one day’ weather window for wind!
.. so we left Gibraltar after filing up with diesel and catching the east-going current. It was a little misty to start.

Due to the huge number of anchored tankers (50?) we motored out of the harbor and 2miles later we entered the Mediterranean.

The rock was magnificent and we saw a spectacular weather phenomenon (see the picture!).  The warm air of the Med was having to rise up to go over the rock. The result was a spectacular cloud formation the other side of the rock. Two very different weathers on each side of the rock.

We set course for Puerto Banus. No more mist. Light wind. Beautiful sunny skies.

As we rounded the rock we heard over the radio... “Ship XXXXX”, this is British Warship YYY. You are contravening International Regulations ABCDE, part ii. You are to cease your current action and leave British coastal waters immediately. If you do not leave further action WILL be instigated against you”. “I repeat ….”
I guess someone was upset.
After 20 minutes of similar radio communication without a reply we heard no more – maybe the ship was boarded?

We slowly sailed in flat seas for over 4 hours for the short 35 mile sail. The wind finally died and we had to motor the last 2 hours arriving at 5.30 in good time for another adventure.
Mooring stern to ‘Mediterranean’ style.
