Sailing from Biaona ..
The decision was made by Les that we really needed to leave Bayona and get to Vilamoura. We had two very old friends meeting us there and they were leaving on the 15th. The trouble was that there were no reasonable winds predicted for the next 7 days so we would have to travel knowing we would have to use the engine 90% of the time.

John is not happy! Not happy about this at all!

We left Bayona at 1pm with the promise of ‘some’ wind. But even this was short lived and unfortunately we had to switch the engine on by early evening. Not only that but we were now in fog - doh!

But every cloud has a silver lining! Enter our new “toy”…
The Raymarine night-vision camera – tadaaaah!
This is an amazing toy and we are so pleased we have it – if only because fog does not stop fishing boats from coming out. Combined with the radar, AIS and the good old foghorn we felt we were well covered.

The weather cleared in the early hours as some wind appeared, alas only for a couple of hours. So back to motoring again.
We finally started sailing again 36 hours later. Although we were only making 4 knots it was so much better than the drone of the engine.

Still, we also had frequent visits from Dolphins the whole way down the coast and got a wonderful video shot at sunset of them playing in front of the boat.

..the water was so smooth and the wind so low that you could have waterski’d the whole coast of Portugal!
