Turgutreis II

6th June, 2013

The last few days have been hot! Really hot!
Still it has given the air conditioning units a good work out.

John has spent his time shinning the chrome and generally cleaning the boat ready for Peter and Jean’s arrival in a few days. Peter and Jean have planned to spend a few days with us sailing from Turgutreis to Gocek further south.

There is a 75 foot motor yacht next to us complete with a professional skipper living aboard. He tells us that the owner and his family come down for 3 weeks each July every year to hang out around the nearby islands. Apart from that he never sees them. Each week he has a team come in to clean the boat and he runs the engines to keep them fresh – that’s his job. In the winter time he returns to Athens to ‘work’ at the owner’s factory though as he says, “I’m not really qualified to do much around the factory.”  He tells me that it is a boring life being a skipper on a boat that rarely moves and it is difficult to be apart from his family of wife and two young children for 8 months of the year, “but it is job and that is rare in Greece these days”.

Makes you think.

..back to shinning the chrome!
