Capri is a really beautiful island.

Designerland

It might have the most outrageously expensive moorings for what you get, but..
Capri is a beautiful island.

As you sail into port you look straight up at a dramatic cliff face, and a lovely town dedicated to tourism and the hoards of day trippers from Naples, Sorrento, Salerno and the host of other resorts along the nearby mainland. Restaurants, nick-nack shoppes, cafes, bars, designer clothing ..of course Tee Shirts! Having arrived early we had the whole day and evening to explore.

We took the local bus  to Annacapri.  That is, “we” and another 200 excited, hot n’sweaty closest new friends that is!  Annacapri is a lovely village. It is situated high up on the mountain and from there you have a panoramic view of the bay of Naples  ..and a chance to take a chair lift to the highest point on Capri for truly magnificent vistas.

Another classic “Designerland”.
There were cute designer clothing shops. Cute designer homewears. Cute designer children’s wear. Cute yachtie wear. Cute churches. Cute streets ..and cute bars and restaurants.
We stopped at one of the cute restaurants for lunch.

We remember that on ordering the server kept coming back with, “oh, we have run out of that!”  “oops, we haven’t any more of that either I’m afraid”
All said though, we all enjoyed our lunch.

Next we went to find the famous villa owned by a Swedish doctor who completely re-designed the gardens and villa time and time again – still, he was not happy and considered it a work in progress.

The views were so spectacular from wherever you looked from - you could see why this was famous for the rich to come to and enjoy over the years.

Lastly there was the chair lift..

Honest Les! They were not my white knuckles. It must have been a trick of the light.

To the top.

Les chickened out!
Bob, Cathy  ..and John (I’m sure those were white knuckles) held on to the chair for dear life with a fixed smile that didn’t budge – the sort of smile that says, “See! I laugh in the face of open chair lifts 100 feet off the ground at the top of a windy mountain as it slowly makes it’s way up the mountain making huge vibrations reverberating down to the chair as the hook trundles over each pillar.” Hahaha!

Despite the need to take ones life in ones hands, the trip to the top was worth the ride for the amazing views!
We took the local bus back to the port.
John found out that all the pictures we had taken did not exist as someone (not him, surely?) had left the camera memory card in the computer – again!
Cathy saved our day and we now have her pictures!

That evening we went to dinner at a great local restaurant (if a little expensive – but it is Capri) on the port and looked into the workings of their pizza oven. Typical John.
We all enjoyed a good meal and the friendly staff.
We all slept well – woken in the morning from the swell created by the ferry boats as they began their daily operations once more.
