Traveling around Rome.

On Thursday we took the train to Rome - €1.50 to get from the coast to the centre of Rome  AND the whole metro journey after that!  Great deal!
Mind you the train had a little bit more to be desired as it was covered in graffiti.
Really Covered. Every square cm from top to bottom and side to side including all the windows! ..and NO, you couldn’t see out either!

Oh! We found that some of the staff perhaps should take a few lessons.

Such as,
“Now repeat after me. C ..U ..S  ..T ..O ..M ..E ..R     S ..E ..R ..V ..I ..C ..E.
Now, does anyone understand this word?”

Actually, we were told that there were protest train strikes around so maybe the staff were a bit upset whilst we were there.
(Memories of the UK in the 70’s come flooding back.)

The local buses all seem to be free. No one asks for money or tickets, no one offers money or tickets ..and we can’t speak Italian. This is great.
Every bus we have been on is REALLY full to bursting too – a sure sign of a good deal.

In fact the complete Roman bus and train set is completely full to bursting at all times of the day.
BO must get to be a problem in the peak of the summer, right!

Exciting, scary, fun ..like all great cities should be!

Wow! What can you say about Rome?
It is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Every street and every turn. Even stepping off a side walk to cross the road means taking your life into your hands.
A game of poker between you and each driver.
Eye ball to eye ball.
The prize being ‘you’ getting to the other sidewalk.
The stakes being  - your life!

Watch the locals and learn. Just walk. Shutting your eyes whilst your stepping off the kerb helps to put pressure on the driver and helps to prevent you from backing down.

Rome has been active so active in human civilization over so many periods from the Roman Empire through to the more recent religious connections via the Vatican and the Catholic Church.
So much to take in.
So much history.

They say you can spend months touring Rome and still only scratch the surface.
We have 2 or 3 days and middle-aged bodies that haven’t been active in the gym for a long long time!
