Hi there

Just entering our third night and a disappointing windless day behind us, on the other hand very relaxing punctuated by some frantic activity to put up and take down our Spinnaker when the wind looked like appearing.  On advice from Martin (SY Otra Vida) we are running slow at around 1800 rpm and still with a following sea and very slight winds achieving between 5 and 5.5 Knots.  Our usual 7+ knots in these conditions sacrificed in favour of fuel economy, so now we can almost reach the Azores on the fuel we are carrying.  Hopefully we can at least get past this dead spot and into the southerly wind stream ahead of us on the Grib files.

For those following we are approx 400 Nm out from Bermuda more or less on the Rhumbline, bring some extra cans of diesel if you are following after.  Our Wind Witch seems, after much chanting, to be unable to establish a reliable weather window in this part of the Atlantic. Tomorrow is another day and we will let you know what it brings.

While windless we have started today to see some of the marine life we were expecting after previous trips.  To date, apart from a solitary turtle just off Virgin Gorda we have seen very little.  Unless of course you count the hundreds of Portuguese man o war that seem to be everywhere in the seas around us (photo below).  The purple nasties are still with us though in decreasing numbers, however around 9am this morning Quentin spotted our first Dolphins, and shortly after lunch a turtle.  We have also been followed by one or more big fish.  After careful study we are pretty sure it is a blue fin Tuna, perfect for our sushi but I am not sure we would manage to eat it all, or even get it on deck, it was quite a fish (photo below).  It may have been more than one as I did feel that sometimes it seemed larger, however it was with us for most of the afternoon.  It may be there still but the angle of the sun has turned the water into a blue mirror beneath the surface of which we cannot see.  One thing is clear, it is not impressed by the budgie shaped lure that we were sold in Tortola, maybe it is too old and smart for our techniques.   I am pretty sure we will catch something soon.

Saturday night was alright for fighting according to DJ Chris and his mega mix on the stereo over dinner.  I feel he lost his way somewhat with the cast of Glee rendition half way through but glad for the efforts.  What will Sunday bring on the music front? there are hints at a watery or even fishy theme!! we shall see.

The night is approaching and Quentin and I have the first watch, so time to bring in the fishing line and get our gear together

So goodnight from us.
