The Snark on The ARC

Hi there,
last update was in Parga, we have moved on to Paxos
and spent a delightful night in Giaos returning to perhaps our favourite resto
on the trip where we enjoyed spit roasted lamb and pork along with all the
traditional Greek accompanyments such as, tzatziki, Aubergine Salad, roasted
aubergine with feta cheese, and of course greek salad. I have
re-discovered Greek coffee which is really quite something if you can avoid it
being served too sweet. Paxos is a very friendly island with
perhaps the most sailor friendly operations I have found. Granted it has
not been developed to the extent that you have shore power and water on the quay
everywhere, but both are available in places and there is usually a water and
fuel tanker on hand to fill you up should you need it. They are also happy
to help you park and make sure you are comfortable for the night.
Tonight back to Lakka, another wonderful spot with
clear water for swimming if a little bit crowded now at high season. we
are anchored next to a very traditional square rigged ketch with a pirate flag
and a very beautiful aft captains qtrs but it is very small in size being only
maybe 45-50ft long including a quite substantial bow sprit. We are now
getting to the stage of the evening when the lack of space means that some dodgy
anchoring decisions are taken. I think we are about as hemmed in as you
can get but you never know I have seem some come even closer.
On our way here we dropped in at some fantastic
caves, sadly I forgot to charge the camera battery today so no photos, but he
cave was so big I believe (though we did not test it) that you could have sailed
straight inside (even with a 25m mast) some quite huge tour boats went in
including a large ketch rigged gullet though they were a little cautious not
straying much beyond the cave mouth.
Off to Corfu tomorrow maybe or maybe we will stay
here one more night before heading north. Winds look fair for the sail to
Sicily next week but before that I have booked in for a lift to replace the
anodes (which have fallen off) and to put in another through hull fitting for
the water maker.
hope to hear from you all soon.
