Gunboat Island

We departed Coco Bandero Cays yesterday morning bound for Gunboat Island.
In Eric Bauhaus’s Panama Cruising Guide the island seemed idyllic. He described
it as uninhabited and postcard picture perfect (four years ago). Upon arrival it
sports three to four guest bungalows, a bar and restaurant and a tire swinging
from a palm tree. After lunch and a bit of rest we were visited by two teenage
boys who demanded $20.00 to anchor. We explained that we had paid all the fees
required at Porvenir, but they still insisted on the fee for anchoring. We do
not recommend a stop here. We will move on to the Carti Islands today, a small
group of islands purported to be the busiest and most densely populated in San
Blas. We hope to find a grocery for fresh vegetables and fruit, and maybe a sim
card.
All is well
