Anchored 2 nights off a motu near Haamene, Tahaa. Good balmy weather. Pleasant breeze, moonlit nights. Clear turquoise sea, gentle chop, sound of surf breaking on nearby reef. Life could be worse! Went for a swim and snorkel. Lots of little fish, one species a very striking black and white. Yesterday (Bermuda Day) sailed in through a heavy shower to the village Tahaa Maitai. Went for a hike up a muddy track to a ridge in the mountains. Great view. Fellas cooking up some tasty meals with local tuna and very long haricots
verts. A favourite with all of us. I’m enjoying the fruits of their labour.
They’re so capable and I’m on holiday! Talking of fruit, there’s lots of
papaya (paw-paw for we Bermoodians) here, pamplemousse (local grapefruit) and
small bananas. Phil’s been brave, ate one yesterday, liked it? How can you be
Bermudian, captain of banana-loving Sea Monkey, and not like bananas?
Plan to sail around Tahaa today, stopping to snorkel at Ile
Tautau.
PS I’m fascinated by the sun going from the east via the NORTH to set in
the west. And the sun sets early, before 6pm. Sunrise about 6am.
