Cape Verde to Brazil Day 3
13:04.06N 027:01.96W So last night the wind finally picked up so it was
registering in double figures.....just. Naturally this meant that it also
changed direction, so we have to sail on the edge of the Parasailor’s
performance envelope to get the Southing we need to cross the ITCZ where we
want, but the good news is that instead of averaging less than 3 kt in very
light winds, we are now closer to 5kt in light winds. Quiet night watching DVD’s after a feast of spaghetti carbonara,
using up some of the fresh food we have in the fridge. Have seen a few merchant
ships, and we lost half of another lure, as the monster that Fabi had get away
early afternoon returned with a friend, and this time just chomped off the back
half of the lure. Needless to say there was a war dance done on deck and some
fish has a hell of a curse on it, but we still have a few more lures, so all is
not lost. Today has been quiet, the Buraco tournament continues, and
in anticipation of Fabi’s victory, sausages have been defrosted so we can
have bangers and mash for dinner. Still have almost all our fuel, as we have been putting up
with the light winds and sailing, we will kick in the engines though to cross
the ITCZ, we are definitely not hardcore enough to bother sailing/drifting through
it. 2 days to Christmas eve, all Fabi wants for Christmas is a
big fish, she has written her list, but I hope Santa receives them via messages
in a bottle, or I fear it will be a stormy Christmas day. Whichever way that
plays, it will be a pleasant change to be in a balmy 30 degrees above zero for
Christmas this year, as opposed to last year’s sleet and snow. |
