Well we finally made it. The last bit did drag on.....like it always seems to. I dont know if it was the yearning to get there but the last few miles to Isabela were painful. The wind freshened up and was on the beak and a 2.5Knt tide was against us. We didnt get to Villamil in time to enter in daylight and as the entrance looked a bit tricky we decided to hove-to overnight at sea and enter in the morning. Sensible idea we thought but after 6 hours of laying hove-to with a 2.5Knt current pushing us away from the island, we ended up 15 miles away and having to sail back again in the morning...D'oh.

But we are here now and glad of it. At first glance, Puerto Villamil is a very charming place and a bit remote looking.....a bit like the Orkneys I would imagine. Once inside the tiny little natural harbour and out of the ocean swell, we can feel ourselves starting to relax,.... a nice lunch and a couple of glasses of wine definately helped. But after a good nights sleep, we will be ready to explore this enigmatic island. We have already seen a shark swimming on the surface and said hello to a couple of lazy seals slobbing on a navigation buoy. The water is super clear and we will go swimming with the penguins & sea lions tomorrow........sounds good eh?
