Well I recon I'm about a third of the way to Falmouth..... Should be the difficult third, but we will see what the low building off the west coast of Ireland brings to the party.
I appear to have finally shaken off the hole. The barometer is falling again, and I am making 6 knots on a beam reech with 10 to 12 apparent. Working with full main and about 3/4 genoa.....(I think I know how the line got damaged now) Trying to figure out the best way to go to twin headsails with only one guaranteed to furl properly.....at the moment I am not risking my repair and furling the Genoa from the foredeck using mooring cleats to fix it.....this will not work in a blow.... Will have to come up with a cunning plan.
OK.... I know I have always said the engine is for parking only.... And to be fair the fuel I took on board in St John's (210 litres to fill the tanks) was the first since leaving the canaries after Ed and Marcello had motored hard in the bay. Well to escape the clutches of the blue lagoon, I confess to 15 hrs making 7 knots "motor sailing". Every rule is bendable or breakable given the right circumstances. Another example... I have always got undressed to sleep....and it is a pain in a bouncy boat. So last night for the first time, I got into the sleeping bag with clothes on.... Makes getting up far less traumatic.....and only I am going to have to smell myself?
Still the Atlantic is gentle with me.....nearly a month at sea and only the super CuNim to talk about. I really have been very lucky since leaving Grenada.
