                | Tough night last night. We were trying to beat into
a 20 knots south-westerly wind, with a short choppy sea and rain squalls. The
consensus between Daniel and I was that it was by far our worst conditions on
the trip so far. To make things worse we were contending with a busy shipping
lane and no moon, so it was pitch black. We were very happy to see the
morning. Throughout most of today this wind has persisted so
we have been continuing to make as much ground to the south as we can, to
give us a reasonable angle to sail west to Galapagos. It is frustrating because
we have sailed 350NM since leaving Panama but feel we have come no closer to our
destination today. At the moment we sit around 147NM from the border between
Ecuador and Columbia and are slowly working closer in to the coast. Before dark
we plan to turn west to take make our run for Galapagos. I shouldn't whinge
given that for 95 percent of the journey we have had a following wind and
sea. Dean is feeling terrific and is very happy about it
as he was not sure if he was going to suffer with ongoing seasickness. Jane is
feeling better but is not quite there yet. Our albatross stayed with us for most of the night,
which is amazing given the way the deck was pitching about. Everyone aboard is tired and looking forward to a
quieter night tonight. Fingers crossed!! Andrew Partington. |
