Another long night last night. We passed through a
series of localised storm cells again. They were fairly widespread and numerous
and travelling in a north-west direction. We did not see the first one until it
was about 5NM behind us. We changed course to the north-west to see if we could
get in front and to the upwind side of it. This worked well as we took off with
the wind rising in front of the system. Our boat speed peaked at 12.5 knots and
we were soon clear of it and to the upwind side.
Once the winds moderated we kept the system on our
port side and took a ride on its shoulder in 15 knots winds for
several miles untill it disappeared from the radar sceen.
Later the wind turned more to the north after being
mostly east all day. Mojo 2 loved this and took off along our line to
Antigua.
Yesterday we covered over 120NM in the 24 hours to
9AM which is pretty good going given that the wind was directly behind us for
most of the day.
Right now it is midday. The wind is again directly
to our stern. We have the sails goose-winged out with the main to port and the
geneker to starboard. we have 12-13 knots and are making a little over 6 knots.
Should put a good few miles behind us today as well [fingers
crossed].
The half way point is 1275NM from Antigua. We are
all now looking forward to this and may have a small celebration when we get
there!!
