The relative desolation of the Vologda lands in early times attracted monks looking for solitude, and resulted in a large number of monasteries. This one represents Russian medieval foritification, containing a village within its walls.
Why used metal scaffolding for renovations when there’s all that wood about?
Abundance of fish make this lake the Scar’s fishing grounds. Government boats patrolled the waters and all fishermen, with the exception of those from nearby monasteries, were subject to high taxes on their catches.
