Attached to mainland by a land bridge, Phuket has all the advantages of being an island with a North, East, South and West coastline, but also those of being part of the mainland of Thailand. It definately seems to have it’s own weather pattern, due to the high mountain range which skirts along it’s West coast.
There’s the huge cummulus rain cloud, gathering over Southern Phuket
I took this aerial photo of the South end of Phuket, Cape Panwa and Cape Prompthep, whilst flying from Phuket to Penang just a week earlier.
The Wat on the hill on Ko Sireh, close to Phuket town is beautifully placed
The attraction of Northern Phuket is it’s proximity to Phang Nga bay with it’s beautiful karst limestone islands
The water is no longer clear though, being close to the mouths of so many rivers which caused all that flooding we had earlier in the month!
We do not indulge is these anchorages yet awhile, however, as we are heading straight for Yacht Haven Marina, where we have a berth awaiting us, just 10 minutes from our home near the airport.
Yacht Haven is in sight in the background, the end of this journey at least
The Yacht Haven dock hand is sent out in his dinghy to guide us in
But we end up anchoring, as the tide is too swift to berth her easily, so we wait a couple of hours, and have lunch at the ‘living room’ cafe in the Marina with Nick and Zarah, the marina managers who allocated us the perfect berth next to our friends, John and Judy on Kalypso
We were able to offer them the same pleasure they offered us last year, the use of our house while we were away bringing Kanaloa back from Langkawi. During August last year we stayed in their beautiful house on the Hamble River near Southampton.
And finally we can relax in our pool and enjoy the calm waters and sunlit green vegetation and orchids of our tropical paradise. |
