Mausambi, Flores Island
Wednesday15th September
The Navionics electronic
chart for this village in the province of Ende, middle of Flores did not give
us any accurate information. Thankfully we arrived at 1.30 p.m. and had
overhead sun for us to thread our way into the most beautifully secure lagoon
just behind a reef protecting us from the slight NE swell we had.
It’s just so nice to
jump in the water and swim over to the reef and enjoy the coral and fish at
low water. It was quite good, we both spotted fish we had not seen before,
and there was plenty of varieties of soft coral competing with the encrusting
corals on old pieces of coral.
This
is just about the worst chart we had had for an anchorage, at least we could
follow our track out next morning!
The fishermen on these two
trimarans had their sleep interrupted by us as we snorkelled past them. I
think they sleep on board during the day to get away from all their kids
screeming and playing on the shore!
There is a resort here
also, but we did not venture to use it as we had only just been to the resort
the day before at Maumere. The Indonesian Rally had taken the yachties out
to visit a typical local village here to watch the women weaving, but we had
already done that back at Saumlaki, and seen the locals the day before at the
market.
We
enjoyed a relaxing evening on the aft deck instead, David got a few more maintenance
jobs done on the boat whilst Ollie and I were snorkelling
This
lovely sunset gradually turned into
