Yuhu Village, close to Lijiang, was the village that the American Botanist, Joseph Rock lived in from 1922 to 1949. He was rescued by the Americans and taken out by aeroplane. But he had recorded a lot of vital information about the way of life of these Naxi people in many of the National Geographid publications beforehand.
These tractors will eventually be replaced I hope, but they are functional!
During the cultural revolution, the Liu Li Temple was destroyed, bt the well preserved wall paintings were hidden underground, and have been placed back into the rebuilt temple. Oh dear, photos of whisteria in bloom now at the Liu Li Temple, never mind the wall paintings! Beisha Village used to be the former capital of the Naxi Kingdom.
Watching these men play mahjong is fascinating, they look like Frenchmen in their blue caps?
This pretty little dog seems to be a common type of breed in this area, very friendly too.

This is the silk embroidery school, where the art is being revived. The writing on the back wall is the typical ‘Naxi’ pictographical type of writing, so different from the Chinese, but easier to understand.
