At 8.30 this morning (ship's time) we were exactly halfway to St. Lucia. 1384 miles to St. Lucia and 1384 miles back to Las Palmas (by 'great circle')
And yesterday afternoon we have the story of 'the one that got away'. We nearly caught our supper, but in the end it got away. It was another dorado, but this time bigger than the first. We almost had him on board when he managed to get free, along with our favourite (and seemingly their favourite) muppet. Nevermind, we are still trying and no doubt will be able to let an even bigger one get away yet.
Yesterday we had very variable winds for a time. For a few hours we had the cruising chute up (big, brightly-coloured sail at the front). Then the wind changed to the south and became more settled; it was then down with the cruising chute and up with the main, the mizzen, and the genoa. The sail is still set like that and we are going very nicely.
145 miles again in the last 24 hours; 1481 miles sailed since Las Palmas (by our zig-zag route).
