We left Gibraltar yesterday as planned and, after refuelling with Gibs duty free fuel, we had an uneventful passage back out of the straits. Slow going against the constant current of water rushing into the Med to make up for the vast amount of evaporation there, and extensive dodging of the constant stream of commercial traffic that goes into and out of the Med - a bit like crossing the M1 on a busy bank holiday.
We are now well into our passage to Madeira (actually Porto Santo will be our first port of call), just over a quarter of the way there (158Nm since Gib). It looks like we will arrive some time on Thursday - winds permitting. At present the winds are not being very obliging - very light to non-existent, but we expect to pick up some decent northerlies later. We have our fingers crossed!
