The weather forecast is for continued light, variable winds in our area for the next few days. So, if we want to get to St. Lucia this side of Christmas, motoring is the only option. Fortunately we have enough fuel to motor the rest of the way (hopefully! - if it is necessary). But, don't think we are complaining; we are enjoying the very pleasant weather, thank you very much!
It seems that quite a few boats around us are not quite so lucky as far as fuel supplies are concerned. We had a radio conversation last night with a boat; they were asking whether we had an updated weather forecast in the hope that we would tell them the winds are due to pick up. They don't have enough fuel to motor all the way and are torn between using fuel now or saving what they have until later. This morning we also had a call from a yacht that was nearby asking if we had engine oil to spare. Naturally, we did, and we transferred 5 litres to them.
Yesterday was one of the first days we could play with the sextant. We all had a go and the consensus was that we are currently somewhere to the west of New York. Actually it wasn't that bad, but there was a discrepancy of about 100 miles between the GPS and our sextant position. I think we will tend to believe the GPS. Much more practice with the sextant is needed.
Yesterday we did 148 miles, making a total since Las Palmas of 2419 miles, and 461 now to St. Lucia.
