After 9 days in Puerto Calero, during which we failed to find the hidden
attractions of Lanzarote, we decided it was time to leave and make the final
push for Gran Canaria. I am probably being unfair on Lanzarote. We met
some nice people there, ate good food, and drank some good beer and wine,
but scenically it doesn't do it for us.

As our journey has been proceeding we have gradually being meeting more
people who are also doing the ARC, and obviously in Lanzarote we met more
than previously - a true mixture, all sorts travelling in all sorts of
boats, but generally a friendly lot and the shared common purpose makes for
easy conversation. Also in Puerto Calero were our old friends, Hugh and
Neil, from the boatyard in Troon. They are out to do some work on a boat
from Troon that they look after (not Finnrose this time!).

We made an uneventful overnight passage to Las Palmas and arrived here this
morning. We can't quite yet take it in; we made it! Well, to quote someone
talking about something much more important that the ARC, "This is not the
end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is the end of the
beginning"

Liz is travelling back to the UK tomorrow for a week (and will return fully
laden with all manor of spares and supplies), and Stuart will carry on with
the never-ending boat maintenance.
