Another day when we didn't quite achieve our daily target. 134 miles
yesterday. The winds are still light. Last evening we were running with
cruising chute and poled-out genoa set when we had reason to suspect a
squally night ahead. The sky was black and lightning was striking all
around us. We decided it would be prudent to snuff the cruising chute, and
we proceeded through the night with the genoa only. In the event the worst
of the squalls missed us, but we have heard from other boats this morning
that they were in the thick of it. The squalls missed us and the wind
dropped again, so overnight we did not make great progress. But, we also
didn't do any damage to the boat or sails - on the plus side!
Today is still very grey and oppressively humid; more thunderstorms and
squalls could still be about.
Nearly 2 weeks at sea now and with a bit of luck we think we should get to
St.Lucia in about a week more. In other words, we are still on target for a
3 week crossing.
Now we are 1038 miles from St. Lucia and 1725 miles from Las Palmas
(although we have sailed 1836 miles)
