Day 16 was a day of settling the boat again, clearing away, and repairing
after the damage we suffered the previous night. After the fierce squalls,
which lasted until sunrise, the wind dropped light although the seas
remained confused for a while. We used the engine yesterday to make
progress to the west. The weather forecast information we have suggests
that we are best making as much westerly progress as we can as quickly as
possible. And, that we did! 150 miles yesterday, making 2271 so far since
Las Palmas, and leaving 607 to do. All being well we are hoping to be in
St. Lucia next Monday some time.
As we get closer to St. Lucia we are beginning to occasionally see other
boats again. We saw 2 boats (in the distance) in the last 24 hours after
more than a week without a single sighting.
