We arrived at Porto Santo at 13:30 on Thursday and moored briefly on the reception pontoon in the marina before being ejected to anchor in the harbour (no room in the inn!).

An odd place; the level of bureaucracy here is amazingly high.

On Friday we ventured ashore and into town, a pleasant place. Apparently Porto Santo's main claim to fame is that it was briefly home to Christopher Columbus, and now it is the beach holiday resort for Maldeirans.

Later in the day we tested the beach - it met with our approval.

It's a small world; in the marina, as well as about 7 other boats doing the ARC, we saw 'Chewsy', a boat we know from Troon, and her owners, Steve and Chris - they are doing the non-ARC.
