At around lunchtime today we heard that they had arrived at an anchorage near the harbour and marina at Cascais. They apparently had had a very rough night and to add insult to injury the engine decided to die on them again at low revs just as anchoring and wouldn’t start again!!!!

They were in contact with David Llewelyn again but as they had had a very rough night 20 knots of wind on the nose and 1.5 metres of swell they said they needed sleep before they could look at the problem again and that is the last we heard and its now 7.00pm our time 8 theirs .

It’s possible they will stay in Cascais ( a lovely town and from what I remember many of the pavements and squares are tiled in black and white patterns and it was from there d and I caught the train into Lisbon for the day ) for another day anyway as strong north easterly winds forecast!! But the concerning thing is why the problem with a new engine - what is going on ? Air in the system but how. Tomorrow is another day.

Apart from telling us there was a problem they also wanted to know ‘the code for the chain?’ Took us a while to twig what they meant but then realised that chain is marked every 10m with coloured inserts but we couldn’t remember the order of the colours in spite of innumerable anchorages over the years. We think yellow green pink purple but will be interesting to see once we finally get back onboard.
