Yesterday we had a day to explore Gozo and we went the hire shop near the port with the intention of hiring bikes but the woman senhora d the desk said ‘you can’t do that Gozo is very hilly ‘ hire a car!!! We looked st the bikes not the best we weren’t sure how hilly the place was in fact in the pilot book it says Gozo is flat or low lying so in the end we hired a jeep.
Set off for the far end of the island down the main road through the centre and Victoria where there is a citadel which we didn’t visit. Looking around we began to realise how hilly the island was with many Hill top villages all with their large. Basilicas which stood out
First stop was Dwejra at the west end - home to the famous Azure Window which is no more having collapsed earlier in the year. Very dark skies, big seas and desert like landscape quite spectacular
Also an inland lake
And one lone yacht out at sea
After this we drove to the ‘Salt Pans ‘ on the north coast. Fascinating - we’d never seen anything like them before spread for a kilometre along the coast and some ? Had been there since Roman Times
