We had a gentle sail this morning up to here to the north end of Martinique arriving at lunchtime. Much to everyone's excitement we also saw a pod of dolphins. Today is Mardi Gras and as I write this at 4.30pm there is the same drumming going on and a parade through the town. David and I have opted to stay on the boat but the others have gone to watch.
We are back into squally weather again so warm rain but the sun is shining at present.
St Pierre has Mount Pelee rising above it although as I write it's top is in the clouds . This erupted in 1902 erasing what was a very elegant town and a wealthy trading port and referred to as Little Paris and killing much of the population. Fortunately the museum was open today in spite of the carnival and has many relics covered in the ash from the volcano. We are hoping to climb it possibly tomorrow but suspect the chances are slight as we are also watching our weather window for sailing across to Dominica.
