Rhapsode

The
sun came out this morning so we have shaken off yesterday’s grey and gloomy
Salvador sky. We’ve seen our first flying fish of the voyage and the wind
is about as good as we can expect for our latitude being a tad south of east.
Nevertheless we are still motor-sailing with the idea that we get as far north
as we can as quickly as we can in case Neptune has a nasty surprise in store for
the wind down here. We
did sail for a short period last night but then had to tack out to sea to keep
clear of a headland and before long we found ourselves back on the latitude of
Salvador. The wind is freer now so we are managing around 5 knots with low rpm
and the genny and main rigged. When
I came on watch this morning Michaela left me with a small flotilla of
fishing boats to platy with. My task was made easier tho’ by the fact that as
dawn approached the boats started for home. I
tested and started the watermaker this morning and it is doing well. We almost
have our first tank of water ready to transfer to the main tanks. The
crew are not too hungry with all the bouncing so our anticipated diet plan
is starting to work. A big hooray in my case at least! P,
