Lots more lolloping. The average swell is about 3 metres now with some magnificent ones getting on for 5 metres. Stunning to look at but we are rolling like a pig on wet grass. But despite this we all manged to catch up on missing zzzzzzzzzzs last night. Cockpit regularly drenched with wave water. Comes of having a low freeboard and a sunken waterline due to extra fuel and victuals. Womder what Sam Plimsoll would have made if us?

First porpoise sighted this morning - a black silhoutte in the moonlight as it leapt out of the sea about a boat's length away. A solitary one out to play whilst the rest were looking for breakfast no doubt. Other than that we have only had a few Exocets (aka flying fish) and some distant sea birds to gaze at.

We were getting too close to Africa by this morning so we have gybed and are now getting more westing. Neither tack suits us well. On the one we go towards Africa and on the other we are heading just a little too west. Too far and we lose the winds.

Our first Portuguese lesson this morning (something has to be done to take my mind off pork pies!). The book promises we'll be speaking the language in six weeks if we study for 35 minutes a day. After day 1 I am less certain than the author.

The watermaker has been given a name - Minnie's Musical Ensemble. Minnie for short. 'Willem' was considered since it had a nice aliteration with watermaker but we didn't think he would squeak in the right fashion. Maybe Gerda could put us right on this?

So that's day two. Probably another six to go.

Have a lovely day.
