Preparations ...

Preparations and reparations day.

We cleared up the mess left by our would-be break in artist and covered up the holes in the vents as best we could. Since Brazil has a the odd woodland or two I'll save the proper repair job until we get to Salvador.

Then there was / is a persistent leak in the forward cabin. Despite Andrew chucking half the ocean onto the boat, bucketful by bucketful, none of us could see where it was getting in. I've scraped, primed and Sikaflexed every possible place but Sod's Law (I'm sure Nelson would have come across him!) will ensure that I've missed the spot completely.

Michael fixed the cockpit light. We've been dining by torch light for the past few days. We might even be able to see what we're eating tonight. Not necessarily a Good Thing you understand.

We took turns to go ashore today. One of us would run the others ashore in the dinghy and then return to await a summons by VHF for the return journey. We spent all our last escudos: two cans of diesel, a couple of bagfuls of market produce, three dozen eggs, some yoghurt and various drinks.

We think we are as ready as we'll ever be.

All  being well we'll set off first thing tomorrow morning.

Happy sailing,
