What a delightful time we had aboard CAMOMILE last night.  The weather was rainy, but the company was lively and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely.  We are SO glad we made the passage over here when we did as the weather turned downright nasty yesterday.  It was rainy and VERY high winds and mountainous seas were expected.  Dave and I walked into Vaitape to check out the village and the supermarket.  There really isn't a lot to see ashore.  Bora Bora is the Pearl of the Pacific and is almost exclusively geared to tourism, especially in the form of resorts.  Currently tourism is way down and the local people are suffering.  Having said that, it must be noted that almost everyone drives everywhere and there seem to be no starving folks around.

Dave finally managed to get a photo of one of the local power boats.  They are remarkable because the driver actually steers from the bow of the boat, probably so that he can look for coral outcroppings.  The steering mechanism is similar to that employed by the Wright brothers at Kittyhawk!

This morning we woke to find about thirty outrigger canoes racing through the mooring fields!  The canoeists were really putting forth an all-out effort.

We managed to find contact cement in town and purchased supplies to have everyone over for Happy Hour tomorrow.  No sooner had we returned from town when Sue came over from CAMOMILE and suggested we turn the party into a lunchtime BBQ and potluck over at the Bora Bora Yacht Club and celebrate our anniversary instead!  I have put my bid in to make hors d'oeuvres (as originally planned) and Dave has gone back to town in search of BBQ food.  We are really looking forward to it!
