All good things must come to an end. But, what an
end.
As we last left you, dear readers, hanging in
suspense, we were ploughing manfully all of four miles dead upwind to Nelson's
Dockyard to squeeze into a sort of basic stern-to mooring that hadn't been
tended to since, I guess, Nelson was last here. Your average French seafood
restaurant could have made a healthy living from the razor-sharp mussel
shells that lined the wall of the granite
mooring. Did I mention that it was narrow ? Not to worry ... the authorities had
helpfully dangled an old car tyre from a rope to protect the gel coats of yachts
in situ. Bill's skills came to the fore again as we smoothly edged in. Slightly
more accomplished then the next day's arrival, a massive super yacht that
reversed in to a space between two other similar yachts and played dodgems with
everybody's fenders in the process.
For most of the day, we enjoyed the tranquility of
Nelson's Dockyard, with a local meal and some souvenir shopping which was
the highlight for children who have added to their collection of miniature
pirate ships, etc. Christine is now sporting a natty little sunhat prepared
before her eyes by a local with sharp knife and palm frond.
As we sign off, and prepare to head for the
airport, I look out over the moored yachts, many resplendent with Christmas
trees and lights. So, with a grateful "thank you" to Nathalie and Bill for a
fabulous experience we wish you all a Happy Christmas & New Year
!
