Lull before the storm

Still in Las Palmas, and only three more days to
go.
I thought we'd treat you to a "here's one we
prepared earlier" photo of the boat, and the more recent scrubbed and now
dressed (in little code flags) version.
This afternoon we ventured out to fly the spinnaker
- a huge 330m2 beast which still frightens me deeply, but we feel we have tamed
slightly. It looks magnificent, and we were able to get about 5 knots of boat
speed out of just 6 knots of wind so it is good to have it.
Tomorrow is provisioning day - mountains of
vegetables that we can watch rapidly rotting in the hold.
"Fiona" (the owner) and the nippers also arrive
tommorrow at long last - no doubt exhausted after exams, house projects
etc.
As we sit, semi relaxed in 30 degrees and light 7
knot winds we have spotted a little noise up in the top right hand corner of the
weather map - it is not often that I've seen hurricane force winds forecast
for Blighty. So I'm happy where we are, if a little stressed by what lies
ahead.
I hasten to add that in the absence of Fiona, this
blog is being brought to you by Skip, whose hand is not quite so fair or
eloquent, so please bear with us until normal serrvice is resumed at the
weekend.
