Running down the miles towards Horta.
The sun has just set on a day of great sailing
conditions. We have covered 133 NM mostly on a close reach, the best part is
that this has put the boat at a much more comfortable angle to the waves
and everyone has been catching up on sleep. The wind speed is picking up
again with quite some violence but I think this is due mostly to squall
activity nearby. In a couple of hours the moon will be up and we'll have a
better idea as to what cloud formations are around us. Right now it's pitch
black outside and we are sailing blind at high speed.
Apart from a couple more excellent meals (we had
Gabriella's 'arepas' recipe for lunch, then blueberry muffins with afternoon
tea) the day was rather uneventful. We're going too fast for fishing and
saw no other ships nor any wildlife.
Things I want to do in Horta;
1. drink several beers at Peter's Café
Sport
2. repair the staysail sheet
3. get a haircut
4. climb the volcano on the neighboring island of
Pico
