Day three of the voyage and all is well on board.
Following forecaster Chris Parker's advice we took advantage of light winds last
night to motor due east and better position ourselves to cope
with strengthening NE trades over the next four days. Not only did we trade
14 hours of diesel for 63 nautical miles of easting but we managed to eat
the evening table seated at a table and everyone got some good hours
sleep.
The trades kicked in this morning and we decided to
reef, giving us moderate speed but hopefully not too much leeway. The seas have
picked up to a 2 meter swell topped with wind driven crests,
we've kept dry but it takes a lot of concentration on the helm. Today is
Israeli Independence Day and we managed a festive lunch of humous, hot
peppers, kebabs, salad and pitta bread. Nirit never ceases to amaze;
where did she find all this in the Caribbean?
Our efforts at fishing continue to disappoint, today we
lost our third lure without landing a single catch. At $25 a lure, when we
eventually hook one and get it onto the grill it will have cost more
than four plats du jour at Wheelers.
Gil Blum surprised us this morning with a phone call
from Hong Kong, and Gil, I'm sorry the line dropped before I could hand the
phone to Shmulik but it was great to hear from you.
As of sunset on Thursday we are 1,876 NM from
Horta.
