First of all our apologies to everyone who was waiting for posting to the blog after IRENE to say that we and the yacht are all ok. After we dodged Irene's bullet we were in a rush to get Passepartout re-rigged and ready for sea. We had three friends on board whose time was limited and we were anxious to get going. This, added to intermittent cell phone coverage, distracted me from reporting the outcome of the storm. In brief we had a 'hurricane deluxe'; Irene was downgraded to a tropical storm long before it reached Maine. There was a lot of rain which produced flooding along the rivers. Trees came down and severed power lines but from what I could see the wind didn't get much above 40 knots at our location. The mooring we were using in York Harbor held up well and there were no issues with storm surge or other craft breaking loose.

Nirit and I spent Saturday and Sunday at the home of 'friends of friends' just ten minutes drive from the harbour so we could check on the boat periodically. Jeff and Maggie, thanks for your wonderful hospitality and the memorable lobster dinner.

After going ashore we stored the dinghy in the garden of Martha and Jay whose house was a short walk from the dock. This kind couple also insisted on us taking away some of their home grown veggies and herbs.

On Monday morning the sun was out and a fresh breeze blew the last remaining clouds away. Our guests Steve and Cinda helped us re-rig the sails, Steve's wife Betty, despite carrying a bad cold and a cough, joined us and by four in the afternoon we were on our way under sail to the Isle of Shoals.

I have some video which I shot expecting there to be a serious storm. Well, nothing really happened so my little film is missing its Act III, but I will have something ready for YouTube in a day or two.
