Ready for Irene

We're just about to step ashore to sit out the possible
arrival of hurricane Irene on land. I've said to Nirit that the outcome might be
sad, but at least it wont be dangerous. We have done everything we could think

It's now 10 a.m. on Saturday and the storm has made landfall in
North Carolina but does appear to be weakening. In theory it should somewhat
dissipate as it reaches the colder waters off New England.
Everything now depends on how well protected York Harbor
really is and the ability of the town moorings to withstand some significant
storm surge. There are around thirty other vessels - yachts, motor boats
and commercial fishing boats - in the harbor after more than sixty have
been lifted out and moved to dry storage. Our friends Steve and Betty who are
here for the weekend are renting a car so hopefully we'll be able to move back
and forth checking on the yacht during the next couple of
days.
Why are hurricanes like your first wife?
Because they arrive all hot and damp but when they leave
they take the car and the house.
