the Canadian Customs eventually came back to work from Canada Day and
released our pallet of equipment which was sitting in Montreal.
With a tracking number now and the goods en route to arrive on Wednesday we
can see the light again.
Due to this delay we have now been caught by the approaching Hurricane
Arthur which is passing through on Sunday.
The good side is that the weather is great, maybe too hot even at 31
degrees while we provision the boat.
We decided yesterday to go for an overnight to Friday Bay to clear the
cabin fever!
We cast off with 25-28 kn on the stern (Southerly) as we headed out of
Lewisporte and had a great 5 hour sail through a sea of Icebergs.
Local chat around here is that there has never been so many icebergs around
at this time of year.
They are easily avoided and must be passed upwind to avoid all the debris
of ice which forms behind them and would do nasty damage to the boat if you came
into contact with it.
The Cod Fishing Recreational 3 week window is not open for a few weeks so
we can’t catch the great Cod we have had in previous years,
but Harry and I had a swim and both agreed that the icebergs had chilled
the water slightly, down to about Irish Christmas swim temperatures but it is
nice to get out into 31 degrees!
While our delay has been frustrating we have met some very interesting
people all waiting for the Hurricane to pass through.
The crew of Artic Turn, Les and Alli are here who are on their second
attempt at the North West Passage having failed to get through last year, and
also sitting in Lewisporte waiting to head to Greenland for a look like
ourselves is the designer of the Rochna Anchor Peter Smith on Kiwi Roa.
