We have spent two nights here now, one anchored in the bay behind and last night alongside the quay.  It is a harbour town with two supermarkets, both with smart danish food, two hotels although one looks shut.  We have been for a drink in the other both nights.

There is a french yacht just along from us.  He has spent a month in Greenland and is now heading back to France.  His crew are both ski instructors, one of whom has sailed a lot. Their wives are flying back today.
He built the yacht in steel himself, 30 years ago and it still looks very good.  He has taken it to many places, including Patagonia which he says is like Greenland but it rains 300 days a year.

The Inuit here all have dark hair, but also unexpectedly dark skin, until you think that a lot of the time they are at sea or on snow, both giving dark tans.  Even in a town like this there are very few Danes.

There is a gold mine still in operation near the town and gold jewellery in the tourist office/shop.  There is also a stall selling locally caught fish, seal and whale meat.  When we looked in we thought the only fish on sale was dogfish which did not look appetising.  We were told afterwards that it was really whale which I would certainly have bought.

This morning we have been sailing gently up the fjord.

We thought this looked good blue, 1,000 year old ice.

So we sailed up to it and dropped the sails.
Helgur took the hammer and broke off some suitable bits.

Whisky or orange juice with 1,000 year old blue ice both taste good.
