This is the home of American yachting, with a row of 12m (America's Cup) yachts lined up across the harbour.  Sat on the veranda of the Newport Yacht Club, which helps organise transatlantic sailing events.  Out of the sun, as that would be too warm.

The next crew, son Tom and his two friends Julian and Calum were picked up in Boston on Saturday. Meatball sandwiches and junior baseball as we wandered round Boston introduced them to US life.

It is almost a holiday today, not like yesterday when we rolled down from New Bedford in force 6 to 7.  Not serious, unless we caught a lobster pot as we ran between the rocks, in one of the gusts. Two pots came close, but missed.

They are impressed by the value of a spray hood, but were wet and cold by the time we arrived at an anchorage just across the bay last night.  Food and drink with the cabin heater on allowed an extended card game to keep them awake.
