Another sunny day, still going the wrong way. So?  Only 437miles to go.

My CD player took a wave and stopped working off Newfoundland.  Electrics like WD40 when wet, so I opened it up, sprayed it (no not the laser) and it still did not work so I put it away.  This morning I thought perhaps it has had time to dry and sure enough Grieg and Dvorak are working again.  Good.

Rather cocky after this success I found the sight reduction sheet I used with the sextant, 40 years ago before GPS was invented.  I bought new tables last year but never got round to trying them, or not for long enough to sort true zenith distance from calculated zenith distance and why you add log versines to log cosines.

I spent a few hours setting my clock from time on the GPS, which seems a bit like cheating, taking sights and going round and round the calculations.  Either the sun has moved or we  are 400 miles north near Ireland.

It is quite good to have any answer out of the calcs and one as close as that gives me hope.  Of course the sun has moved, as they are last years tables I am using and you have to add 5hr 48min and then add 87 degrees for 2009.  Try again.
