CALPE, SOUTHERN SPAIN POSITION 38:38.29N 00:04.26E
After setting off at midnight, into what was forecast as a maximum of
force 6 winds, we were not surprised to find ourselves in big seas and
force 8 winds by break of day ! We were both up on deck, and braving
the strong winds and heavy rain, M sitting on the companionway steps,
when a very small bird (similar to a wren M thought, B thought it was a
nuthatch) came careering into the cockpit, wings akimbo, and landed on MŽs
knee! After climbing over the lifejacket and genoa rope it decided it
was far too windy up top, so relocated itself in amongst the books around
the chart table, and stayed with us until we docked in Calpe Marina ! We
sailed into Calpe Marina mid morning, in torrential rain and heavy seas,
with Bob losing sight of Calpe Rock (1500ft high) at one point completely,
and asking M where we were !! Safely tucked into Calpe Marina (a very
reasonable 27 Euros inc services) and looking forward to meeting up with
old friends, Carol & Dave, and possibly M's friends from Javea, Steve &
Julie.
