LADY LIV DIARY 12 OCTOBER 2007
CAGLIARI POSITION 39:12.07N 09:04.61E
A short sail round the corner to Cagliari, a very busy commercial port on
the southern coast of Sardinia - three or four marinas, and not very clear
in the Almanac which one was which !
However, a very friendly chap came out in his rib and showed us into a berth
in the Marina de St. Elmo, right next to the dry dock and some very nice
looking yachts ...
After dark, the sea was alive with thousands - no millions - of fish, all
about a foot long and jumping and splashing around, some smaller ones
landing on the pontoon !
Walked up to the biggest chandlers that we have seen in Europe - and like a
couple of anoraks, spent about an hour looking at, and buying bits for the
boat, and another ¨bad boy¨ fender for the yacht... sad isn´t it ! Also
walked miles uphill into the old town and found "Tommy´s Music Bar" - well,
we had to go in there, didn´t we! - and enjoyed a really good meal, with a
decent bottle of wine, and lovely friendly people - not to mention some good
music too. Stayed an extra day in Cagliari, and revisited the chandlers via
taxi, armed with two empty gaz bottles, and then spent a whole afternoon in
a hypermarket shopping for food ! M could not believe the range and quality
of the Italian/Sardinian food and the cheap prices - so we spent a fortune -
then taxi back to the marina.
